Hype Open Protocol

Connectivity is often disregarded in the crypto space. We challenge this fact, by observing that devices lack Internet, especially in IoT.

The Hype Open Protocol is a technological engine that enables devices to connect directly, bringing alternative connectivity to billions of disconnected devices. With HOP, devices connect and trade services and goods directly, without the data going through the Internet.

Connectivity even without Internet

HypeLabs created the Hype SDK, a technological engine that enables devices to connect directly on mesh networks. Devices cooperate by forwarding traffic on behalf of each other, without the need for infrastructure, resulting in better connectivity solutions that are more resilient than the traditional approach.

Incentivized Connectivity

Devices lack incentive to cooperate. As the content is forwarded on a network, they share computational resources, such as CPU time and battery. The Hype Open Protocol is an economy-driven connectivity solution that compensates devices for their cooperation and motivates them to remain active on the network.

Utility

Internet Sharing

Ever ran out of data from your Internet data plan? With Hype it’s possible to “rent” Internet to and from other users, sensor networks, etc. It enables the sharing of excess data on a cellular plan, for a fee.

IoT Microtransactions

Microtransactions in IoT become possible by providing reachability to the Internet to often disconnected devices. The possibilities are immense!

Connectivity as Infrastructure

HOP empowers connectivity through public transports or traffic and street lights. Denizens can reach out to the Internet, enabling infrastructure to be monetized.

Off-the-grid trading

Disconnected devices can now access the Internet, and thus engage in trading when previously that was not possible. With HOP, even disconnected devices can trade goods and services.

Energy grid balancing

Energy production from renewable sources may be sold back into the grid to produce balance, and the Hype Open Protocol can provide the necessary connectivity and economy model.

And much more...

HOP can be used in many ways. We’ve seen tremendous creativity in ways in which this technology can be deployed. We highlight some possibilities, but it’s applicability is immense!
